TAROT 101:

The Beginners Guide To Tarot

1

What is Tarot?

Tarot is a set of 78 unique cards in which each card represents a philosophical story or a lesson.

The modern approach to Tarot is to use it as a tool to connect to your inner voice.

How does a Tarot Reading work?

In a Tarot Reading, you or someone on your behalf (like a Tarot Reader), will use the Tarot Cards that have been selected to piece together a message or a story for you to reflect on. You can consult the Tarot around a specific subject or you can let the Tarot bring to light something they feel you should reflect on.

The way a Tarot Reading works is that you listen to the reflections then respond to them. The reflections look something like clarity, insights, affirmations, feelings, thoughts, situations, and people. The response is how you want to move forward based on what you’ve reflected on.

3

Can anyone read Tarot Cards?

Yes. Anyone can read Tarot Cards.

Everyone forms a distinct reading style as they develop a relationship with the Tarot. Being an intuitive or psychic just distinguishes the style of the reader. It doesn’t necessarily make the reading better than a reader who doesn’t have those skills.

How to pick out a Tarot Deck.

If you’re feeling called to work with the Tarot, that’s your sign that you’re ready to buy a Tarot Deck for yourself. The deck you choose to work with should be an extension you. So, all the way from the artistic style to the teachings, the
Tarot Deck you choose should be a good reflection of that.

A very simple way to pick out a Tarot Deck for yourself is to go with your feelings. Physically pick up the Tarot Deck Box or browse around for a few Tarot Decks online or research the Author or look at the artwork. If you like the vibes, then get it. If you don’t like the vibes, keep searching.

If you’re looking for a traditional approach you can just narrow your focus to the Rider-Waite Tarot or the Crowley-Thoth Tarot. These 2 Tarot Decks are considered the first ones in our era. Rider-Waite’s offers a straightforward logical approach while Crowley-Thoth’s offers an intuitive Hermetic approach.

Here at ABRABINAH we have our own Tarot Deck, which is heavily based off of the Crowley-Thoth Tarot.
